I started playing seriously again about 10 years ago. More recently, I have retired from teaching math and spend much of my time performing around Appleton WI. The groups I have played in include; many community theatre pit bands, the Fox River Brass Quintet, UW-Fox Valley Concert Band, Swing Time Big Band, BBR (Big Band Reunion), Vento Winds, Wisconsin Symphonic Winds, Appleton City Band, Swing'n Angels and occasionally with FBI and the Untouchable Horns.

In case you were wondering about my trombones and the equipment I use for my basement Lair recordings, currently I use (and recommend) a Getzen Custom 3508Y Jazz horn and a Getzen Custom 3047AFR (Large Bore Tenor). I also play and like my Shires Q36GR Bass trombone. For recording I use an Audix i5 and an MXL R144 in tandem as my primary recording mics. I use a small Behringer Xenyx Q802 mixer which has a USB output to a windows 10 laptop. The program I use to overlay the tracks is Audacity. I also use a Boss RC-3 loop pedal along with an FS-5U aux. pedal and a Shure PGA98H-XLR Clip-on mic when I'm messing around with the loop pedal.

Many years ago, I studied trombone and received a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Shortly after, I played in the pit for the show "Broadway" for the Marriott Hotel chain during the time they ran Great America. Later I became a band director for a short time in Baraboo WI and then spent several years as a band director at Washburn High School in Northern Wisconsin. During that time, I played in the Chequamegon Symphony and the Stadtpfeifer Brass Quintet.
In the middle 80's, I stopped playing and returned to Madison for a degree in Mathematics, and later a Master's degree in Education from Viterbo University.
